Tori Shogi (a.k.a. Bird Chess) is a variant of Shogi invented in the Edo period (1603-1868). It is characterized by the use of a 7 x 7 square board, the smallest among the traditional Shogi variants, and pieces with bird's names.

It is considered to be of a different lineage from orthodox Shogi, and each of the pieces moves in a totally different way. Most of the pieces can move diagonally, which is reminiscent of the sharp movements of a bird stalking its prey.

In the Kanare_Abstract version, you can play with the original rules, which add two new birds to the conventional pieces.
